What are the benefits of karate for children?
Many parents considering karate for their children ask: besides exercise, what else will my child learn?
1. A stronger body
Karate trains whole-body coordination, flexibility, explosive power and endurance. With regular practice, children's fitness and posture improve noticeably.
2. Focus and discipline
Every class begins and ends with a bow. Students listen to instructions and memorise sequences of movements, so their focus and self-discipline grow naturally over time.
3. Self-confidence
Karate has grading exams. Each new belt recognises a child's hard work and gives them more confidence to face challenges.
4. Courtesy and respect
"Karate begins and ends with courtesy" is the spirit of karate. Students learn to respect their coaches, classmates and opponents, and these habits carry over to school and home.
5. Handling winning and losing
Competitions let children experience both success and failure, and teach them to reflect after a loss and try again.
Lau's Karate is led by Director Lau Chi Ming, a National Games bronze medallist with a career-high world ranking of 9th in men's individual kata. Our students range from age 4 to over 60. Book a trial class and let your child try it out.
