About Lau's Karate

Coach Lau Chi Ming and Coach Grace Lau Mo Sheung

Lau's Karate was founded by Coach Lau Chi Ming in 2021. Coach Lau Chi Ming and Technical Adviser Coach Grace Lau Mo Sheung are Hong Kong elite karate athletes. With outstanding results overseas, the brother and sister have each been named Hong Kong Outstanding Athlete at the "Sports Oscars" representing Hong Kong karate. After many years of competing and training around the world, they distilled their experience into a structured curriculum, taught according to each student's ability.

Lau's Karate teaches a wide range of students, from 4-year-olds to seniors over 60. Through karate, we hope to give children the right values, build their discipline and confidence, and encourage students of all ages to keep training their bodies and challenging themselves!

Our Mission

At Lau's Karate, we believe karate teaches far more than punches and kicks. What we truly aim for is for every student to learn the courage to face difficulties head-on.

As Technical Adviser Coach Grace Lau Mo Sheung said after the women's individual kata final at the 2026 Nagoya Asian Games: "The spirit of an athlete is to try even when you know it will be a hard fight." Even against a strong opponent, even when victory is uncertain, giving everything you have — this fearless, fighting spirit is the core value we hope to pass on to every student through karate.

Coach Lau Chi Ming discovered karate at the age of 11 and won the very first competition he entered — the first time in his life he had truly won anything. In that moment he felt, for the first time, what it meant to have a goal: as long as you work hard, you can see yourself improve. That sense of purpose has kept him training ever since.

What karate taught him was not just winning or losing in competition. What really matters is facing failure again and again in training, and picking yourself up each time. It is a form of self-cultivation — winning a championship may be hard, but with persistence and hard work, going from white belt to black belt is absolutely possible.

Karate also brought him closer to his family. Coach Lau and his sister, Coach Grace Lau Mo Sheung, grew closer through karate and share the same dreams and goals — she has since become a world champion, and karate has changed her life profoundly too.

In founding Lau's Karate, Coach Lau hopes to pass on to the next generation the power that changed his life — so that more children not only learn karate technique, but also learn courage in the face of difficulty, and find their own goals and dreams through karate.
